Mental Health First Aid
PCT Training is proud to offer the 12 hour Mental Health First Aid course, accredited via the Care Services Improvement Partnership. MHFA is a highly effective course, first developed in Australia, where the national government has a target of training one sixth of the population, and where evaluations demonstrating high levels of effectiveness and economic benefit have been published under the auspices of the University of Melbourne. The course provides participants with an understanding of mental health issues based on a recovery model and gives people basic skills in recognising the signs and symptoms of a range of mental health problems and dealing with these in a First Aid approach, developing their ability to assess risk, listen effectively, give reassurance and encourage both professional and self help. Our instructors are qualifies and approved and one of our company directors is a member of the MHFA National Training Team, responsible for the development of the course and for training instructors.
Courses can be run as a two day block, in two six hour sessions over a longer period or even as four three hour sessions to meet your organisational requirements. Individuals can also apply, and courses will be organised as required. This is a must for organisations that deal with mental health problems in their daily business (eg care homes, domiciliary care providers etc), for organisations seeking to reduce sickness levels and improve productivity and for anyone who wants to increase awareness of mental health issues and help to reduce stigma and discrimination.
